Written on the back of the original photograph is "Aunt Susie / from Joe / Mch - 1899." The front border has the mark of a photographer in New Orleans. Joe L. was known to be in New Orleans at the time, as evidenced by this entry in the Rockdale Messenger from 1899 March 16: "Joe Loewenstein, Jr., one of the most popular and worthy young men of Rockdale, left Monday for a pleasure and business trip to Houston, Galveston and New Orleans."
