CRUISING

The Club sponsors a complete schedule of cruises during the sailing season: weekend, three-day holiday weekend, evening and one- and two-week summer vacation cruises. We sail to popular destinations throughout the Chesapeake and then raft together at day's end for refreshments and socializing. Most members own cruising sailboats (ranging in size from 26 to 38 feet in length). Members without their own boats are encouraged to “hitch a ride” with other members or to charter boats to sail on Club cruises.

PICNICS AND MORE

The Club holds periodic picnics at the Hammock Island Marina (on Bodkin Creek) for socializing over hamburgers and hotdogs on the “hard.” We also meet occasionally for informational workshops (a recent example, 12-volt marine electrical systems). One of the Club's major social events is a Winter Party in January at the home of one of the members.  Traditionally, this event features the installation of the new slate of the Club’s directors and officers and the award of various trophies and plaques in recognition of outstanding service or achievement in the prior year.  We also “convene” now and then during the off season at local restaurants.

THE HORNPIPE

The Club publishes The Hornpipe, a monthly newsletter that keeps members informed about Club meetings, cruises, and other activities.  In addition, The Hornpipe carries reports and logs of members’ Club and independent cruising, reviews of boat rigging and hardware and other issues of interest to cruising sailors.
